Oregon grape (Mahonia aquifolium) is an evergreen shrub that can grow up to 1 m tall. The bark on the young shoots is pinkish-gray, while the older ones have brownish-gray bark with longitudinal stripes. The compound, pinnate leaves typically consist of 5-9 leaflets measuring up to 15-20 cm long. The light yellow, vibrant flowers often have a lemon tint and measure approximately 8 mm in diameter, forming multi-flowered panicles or racemes. The oblong-elliptical bluish-black berries are around 10 mm long and 8 mm wide, with seeds that are oblong, chestnut-colored, shiny, and measure 4.5 mm in length, 2.3 mm in width, and 1.5 mm in thickness.
