Oregon, also known as Mahonia aquifolium, is an evergreen shrub that can grow up to 1 meter in height. The bark of young shoots is pinkish-gray, while on older shoots, it is brownish-gray and has longitudinal stripes. The leaves are complex and pinnate, leathery, and dark green on top. The flowers are grouped in multi-flowered panicles, which are light yellow and bright, often with a hint of lemon. The berries are oblong-elliptic, measuring up to 10 mm in length and 8 mm in width. They are bluish-black with a plentiful bluish coating and covered in fluff. The seeds are oblong and shiny. Oregon typically flowers in April to May, with the fruits ripening in August to September.
